NYC Restaurant Announces It Will Only Open To NFT Owners

Although the restaurant won’t officially open until 2023, two types of memberships are already being sold on Ether.

NYC restaurant claims it will only open to NFT holders

VCR Group, the hospitality company founded by entrepreneur Gary Vaynerchuk, has announced a direct token sale of its newest members-only private dining club in New York City, called Flyfish Club. Potential seafood-restaurant goers must purchase their membership on the blockchain, which is sold as a non-usable token (NFT).

VCR Team answered the question “Why NFT?” on the Flyfish Club website, stating:

“By using NFT, FFC is able to create a loyal community of members to which we can deliver exceptional experiences. NFT creates new modern financial models, allowing FFC to deliver an exceptional and sustainable product for years to come. ”

It seems that there are two types of memberships available on the official website. The regular tier grants members access to the main dining room, outdoor space and cocktail lounge, and special events for 2.5 Ether (ETH) or $8,474 at press time. The second, more expensive tier – the Flyfish Omakase – will grant access to all of the above along with a 14-seat omakase room and is currently available for 4.25 ETH or $14,400.

According to its net page, NFT holders of the Flyfish Membership can either lease out their tokens to non-token holders on a monthly basis, or they can resell them. There are also no recurring annual fees. And although cryptocurrency is required to get the membership, customers can pay for their food and drinks in US dollars.

Flyfish Club is the second concept of VCR Group, following the opening of the omakase Japanese restaurant Ito, also in New York City but not only for members. The Flyfish Club is scheduled to open in early 2023.

Flyfish Club claims to be the first members-only NFT restaurant however, it is not the first culinary concept to integrate cryptocurrency into its business model. More recently, the Crypto Street Restaurant opened in Clearwater, Florida, boasting crypto-themed wall art, menu items, and accepting crypto payments.
