A new study from the UK reveals that most game studios have already begun exploring Blockchain technology for their upcoming titles.
Powered by blockchain platform Stratis and conducted by information agency Opinion, the new study surveyed 197 video game developers in the US and UK. The results show that 58% of developers are starting to use Blockchain technology and almost 47% of respondents are starting to incorporate NFTs into the game.
Research points to developers' interest in blockchain and NFT, as two-thirds of studios expect blockchain to become ubiquitous in the gaming industry within the next two years. While 72% of respondents are considering using blockchain and NFT in upcoming games, 56% plan to adopt the new technology within the next 12 months.
Chris Trew (CEO of Stratis), explains that blockchain technology, tokenization and NFT are important technologies for the digital world and gaming industry. He said:
These technologies allow players to own shares in the games they play, such as buying land in a Metaverse game, buying a car in a racing game. Traditional games are usually pay-to-play and do not generate any profits, but blockchains and NFTs will change this situation.
The top three benefits of blockchain for the video game industry are innovative gameplay (61%), ensuring value for players by keeping in-game currency (55%) and bonus mechanics in the game (accounting for 54%).
About 20 of the indie game developers have moved into the blockchain space, and the original NFT, is working on the Stratis blockchain. Big names like Unisoft and EA have shown great interest in the technology, and Epic Games has welcomed blockchain games to its platform.
According to the research, game developers' interest in blockchain is focused on GameFi (57%), play-to-earn model (46%), NFT providing ownership of in-game items. play (44%) and digital currency (42%).
