The BSC-based yield farming protocol Arbix Finance has been identified by blockchain security firm Certik as a carpet traction.

According to the company’s incident analysis, there are several reasons for a project to be flagged. The security firm cites that the ARBX contract has mint() with onlyOwner functionality, 10 million ARBX tokens are minted to 8 addresses and 4.5 million ARBX are minted to a single address. Later, Certik confirmed that 4.5 million tokens that were minted were subsequently dumped.

The company also reported that $10 million in user-submitted funds went to unverified groups, and eventually, a hacker withdrew all assets from the groups.

Using the platform’s Skytrace for fraud risk analysis, the company determined that the hacker had exchanged funds for Ethereum through the AnySwap USDT decentralized exchange.

The term carpet pulling is used to define events in which developers abandon projects entirely after receiving a large amount of investment in their decentralized finance project or pseudo-cryptocurrency. . Scams like these are very common in the crypto industry and record more than $7.7 billion in crypto lost by scam victims globally.

A report by Chainanalysis suggested that carpet pulling contributed the most to the increase in funds lost to crypto scams in 2021. The report notes that “37% of total revenue from crypto scams in 2021” is due to carpet pulling.
