With Carano still not established after Alonzo . hard fork helping the network gain smart contract capabilities, IOHK announced that Cardano has entered the third phase of its roadmap, The Basho Era.
According to IOHK, this phase promises to improve the performance and scalability of Cardano network.
Cardano tops the scalability charts
In terms of Basho scalability, Cardano will introduce Hydra – a layer 2 scaling solution that promises to ensure the Cardano network handles millions of transactions per second.
Looking at that aspect, Solana – considered by many to be the fastest blockchain that can process 50,000 TPS. The upcoming Ethereum 2.0, is looking to achieve a processing speed of 100,000 TPS.
The upgrade will increase the network’s block size by 12.5% to 72KB, while also making the Plutus instruction set more memory-efficient. It will also introduce Pipelines to propagate blocks “to at least 95% of peers within five seconds.”
Sidechains coming to Cardano
The interoperability side will introduce sidechains, allowing Cardano to communicate with other blockchains. It will also help assets be moved between chains as needed.
This phase will also introduce off-chain computation. This will allow transactions to be made on the Cardano mainnet. However, these transactions will still be fast, cheap, and offered through a fiduciary model.
Besides, Synthesize multiple signatures will ensure that the network completes transactions quickly and efficiently, without compromising on security features.”
