Binance Funds AFCON to Further Grow Crypto Adoption in Africa

Monday marks the start of the TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations – Africa’s largest men’s football championship. At the same time, Binance announced an official partnership with the Confederation of African Football as an official sponsor for the AFCON 2021 tournament, becoming the first crypto and blockchain sponsor for the event.

Through this sponsorship, Binance will also promote CAF’s social media content, including Support of the Day, Support of the Week, and Support of the Tournament. This content will include games from five cities in Cameroon across all six locations.

Veron Mosengo-Omba, General Secretary of CAF, “is delighted to welcome Binance as the official sponsor of this year’s AFCON tournament.” Mosengo-Omba says he is optimistic that the partnership will “push African football to the next level”.

AFCON 2021 marks the beginning of the African sports calendar and will continue until 6 February.

Binance’s partnership with CAF is part of an ongoing campaign to provide financial services to Africans, who they say often have very limited access to banks and financial services. other financial institutions. To date, Binance says it has given more than 541,000 Africans access to free crypto classes.

“Football is the most popular sport in Africa,” said Binance Africa director Emmanuel Babalola. He said that they hope this funding will continue to “endorse our mission to bring crypto to the mainstream across the continent.”
