The Associated Press has announced that it will be launching a non-fungible token (NFT) built by blockchain technology provider Xoa. Users will be able to purchase the news agency’s award-winning historic and contemporary photojournalism.
The first NFT and Marketplace will launch on Monday, January 31. The first collection will feature photos of current and former AP photojournalists and a selection of digitally enhanced descriptions of the work. their. Pulitzer Prize-winning AP images will also be listed for sale by NFT.
“For 175 years, AP photographers have captured the world’s greatest stories through compelling and poignant images,” said Dwayne Desaulniers, AP’s director of data and blockchain licensing. “With Xoa’s technology, we are proud to offer these encrypted works to a rapidly growing global audience of photography NFT collectors.”
Each NFT will include original metadata that provides collectors with detailed information about the time, date, location, equipment, and technical settings used for the images. NFTs will range from space, climate, war and other images to focus on the work of specific AP photographers. According to the announcement, the NFT price point will be different. As a non-profit news cooperative, profits will be reinvested in funding the AP news agency.
Collectors of all levels will be able to seamlessly buy, sell, and trade official AP digital collectibles through the marketplace. The statement notes that the new site will also support secondary market transactions and purchases with credit card payments and crypto wallets, including MetaMask.
