Tesla CEO Elon Musk is not happy with Twitter’s new non-fungible token (NFT) integration. Musk criticized Twitter in a tweet Friday morning for dedicating technical resources to NFT integration while not doing more to combat spam on the social media platform.
Musk’s tweet criticizing crypto fraudsters was accompanied by a tweet offering fake giveaways,
“This annoys me,” he wrote. “While crypto scammers have a spambot blocking team on every post, Twitter dedicates technical resources to this nonsense.! ”

NFT Profile Image (PFP) was recently made available to Twitter users. A hexagonal avatar showing NFT graphics may have been seen on specific user accounts. According to Twitter, the photos are now part of a verified collection on the NFT’s OpenSea marketplace.

Musk’s criticisms of Twitter’s NFT initiative are likely because fraudulent accounts often mimic Musk and other celebrities to promote crypto giveaways. One such Musk impersonator successfully stole $2 million from anonymous victims in 2020.

Scammers posing as MicroStrategy CEO Michael Saylor have been stealing more recently 1 million dollars in bitcoins from a single person. This problem is not limited to Twitter; Scammers use identical strategies on government websites and many other social media platforms, including YouTube. Twitter’s NFT integration is currently only accessible to users of Twitter Blue, the social media company’s premium service.
